It could be worth $250! We are on a quest to find out who has the oldest surviving copy of our monthly Journal.

The first issue of the Journal was published in September 1931 under the original name, California Mining Journal.

The contest will end on December 31, 2008, so don’t waste any time.

The winner will receive a check for $250 and a 3-year subscription; second place will receive $150 and a 2-year subscription; third place will receive $75 and a 1-year subscription.

We don’t want you to send in your old magazines! Just drop us a postcard or send us an email with the pertinent information, including the month, year, volume and issue number, along with your name and a reliable method to contact you. We’ll notify you if you’ve won. Results will also be posted on our website in February.

Start digging through those old magazines, and good luck!

Complete Rules

• Only one entry per person and per address.

• The magazine in your possession must be original with all of the original pages intact.

• In the event of a tie, the prize will be split evenly between the winning entries. 

• Send us your name and a reliable method to contact you during the first week of January 2009. Include the month, year, volume and issue number for your oldest issue. You can send us this information on a postcard, letter, or via email using the contact information above. 

• We will make at least three attempts to contact you by phone and/or email during the first week of January 2009. If we are unable to contact you by phone or email by January 7, 2009, we will move on to the next qualifying entry.

• If we contact you, you will have until January 14, 2009 to send in the magazine for verification. (We can return it to you if you like, though we would like to frame it and display it here in our office!)
